Our Story

THE TEAM

The team at Farris Wheel Studios works closely together through every stage of a project, from early fabrication to final installation. These are the folks who help turn ideas into real, physical work—and make the studio a good place to spend long days building things.

Farris Wheel Studios is the working fabrication and production studio of Amie Jacobsen, where she and her team create sculpture, public art, and site-specific installations.

Jacobsen’s practice began in painting, illustration, and design before transitioning into three-dimensional and sculptural work following hands-on training in a metal fabrication shop in Kansas City’s Crossroads district. There, she learned the practical realities of building—materials, tools, and fabrication processes—that continue to inform her work today.

Her first large-scale commission led her to establish her own studio and fabrication space. Initially operating out of a small, rented, garage-sized shop, Jacobsen designed and fabricated the work herself using a minimal setup: a welder, a few angle grinders, and a metal chop saw. As her practice grew, she moved into larger spaces and began bringing on assistants, gradually developing a small internal team to support the design, fabrication, and installation of her work.

In 2020, Jacobsen and her husband, Tim O’Neill, purchased a 17,000-square-foot building in the Kansas City area to house her growing studio alongside O’Neill’s creative workshop. Today, Farris Wheel Studios operates from this shared space and includes a full metal fabrication shop, a fully equipped woodshop, and a showroom/gallery supporting the production of large-scale sculptural projects. While the studio has collaborated with many skilled creative professionals over the years, the internal team at Farris Wheel Studios remain at the heart of the work.
